Spiced Doughnut Holes
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
dash of salt
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup butter, melted
1 egg
Oil for frying
Powdered sugar or cinnamon-sugar for dusting
Combine all dry ingredients. Make a well in center and add in wet ingredients. Mix well. Using a small cookie scoop, drop into hot oil and fry until golden brown. Allow to drain for a few minutes then toss in powdered sugar or cinnamon-sugar.
Technically, you could roll this dough out and cut into actual doughnuts instead of just having the 'holes'. I didn't care to go to all that trouble. I wanted something quick with less mess involved. This made 24 walnut-sized holes.
