Luckily, the only chicken in our flock with that color feathers is good ol' Ralph, our Buff Orpington Rooster.
It seems a stray dog paid us a visit tonight. That doesn't work well when you've let the chickens out to roam. Apparently, Ralph took one for the team and gave his girls enough time to scatter because everyone seemed fine afterwards. Ralph and his closest girl, Nancy, were missing for a bit, but they eventually made their way out of the woods and back up to the coop.
Everyone is locked up safe for the night, thank goodness and that stray dog better watch himself. I pulled out the old Red Rider.
Hope all is well in your neck of the woods!
I'm linking up with the Farmgirl Friday Blog Hop.
What a hero Ralph is!
ReplyDeleteYAY for Ralph! Glad everyone was okay!
ReplyDeleteKeep that BB gun handy in case the dog shows up again!
Took one for the team....alright Ralph! A good reason to keep a rooster!
ReplyDeleteCarrie, Thanks for dropping in over at my blog today -- welcome! You asked about our buttermilk jar; it's homemade cultured buttermilk that we make by combining whole milk with store bought cultured b.milk. It's so much cheaper to keep us in buttermilk that way than to keep having to buy it. We have used "real" buttermilk from butter making in the past, but we don't currently have a source for raw milk or cream. Friends of ours are expecting their cow to calf later this spring, and we're on their milk list...
ReplyDeleteI read your homestead goals before commenting here and see you've got many of the same goals that we do (I haven't gotten around to sharing them on the blog yet). Good luck as you work your way through your list this year!
Blessings, ~Lisa :)
Carrie,
ReplyDeleteI am happy Ralph was so brave and survived the dog. We lost an entire group of hens once to a stray husky. I am so glad your little brood is alright. Thanks for linking up to Farmgirl Friday!
