Adoption Update

A lot of folks have been asking about what's new on the adoption front.  I feel like I'm disappointing them when all I can say is paperwork and fingerprinting, but it's the truth.  Here's what's happened since last I updated you.

  • 11/10 - In-office interview for home study & fingerprinted at local police station for FBI criminal background check
  • 11/17 - Faxed off form for CPS check & mailed fingerprints to FBI
  • 11/18 - Passport photos taken
  • 11/21 - Fingerprinted for state background check
  • 11/29 - Hubz had his TB test
  • 12/2 - I had my TB test
  • 12/16 - Mailed in remaining relationship, family history, financial worksheets and 2 of 3 referral letters
  • 1/7 - Had our home visit & sent with her copies of our driver's license, marriage certificate and birth certificates
  • 1/9 - Hubz had his physical
  • 1/16 - 3rd referral letter submitted (around this date)
  • 1/19 - Received FBI criminal background check results
  • 1/23 - Mailed FBI results to US Department of State to have them authenticated
  • 1/25 - I had my physical
  • 1/30 - Emailed sheriff to request local background check
  • 1/31 - Had Josie's shots updated - even the poor pooch has to participate!
  • 2/3 - Received local background checks from sheriff
  • 2/6 - I had additional testing as a result of my physical
  • 2/7 - Received FBI results back from US Department of State

Up next is receiving the draft of our home study to review.  Once that is completed, we move on to the Dossier which contains all the documents that get translated and sent to the country.  I believe the 1st stop there is submitting forms to Immigration which requires a trip to the State Department in Indianapolis and more fingerprinting.

Folks have also been asking about how much the process costs.  Our agency does a really nice job of laying that out for us so we will have few surprises (hopefully!).  I feel like the financial aspect of it could be a post in and of itself so I'll work on that and get it up soon.

Until next time!
