Signs of Fall

Fall is in the air!  It's just a week away, you know?  Here are some signs of the coming season on our homestead this week, and it's all about the trees.

Hedge apples are maturing and starting to drop.

Black walnuts are falling as well.

Here is one of two abandoned homes we found.

Seems that Sycamores are about the 1st tree to start dropping leaves around here.

Oh, and one more sign of fall...

50.6 degrees outside at 9:00pm.  Perfect campfire weather.  Love it!

What are the signs around your place that Fall is just around the corner?

Does anyone out there use hedge apples to repel insects (spiders) from the house?  They're pretty popular around these parts.

  1. I have never seen one of those green balls before, they don't grow up here. But, now that you mention it...I think I saw something on Martha or one of those shows that said that they can be used for an insect repelant. Blessings from an even cooler morning - frost actually - Wisconsin.
